He lived around the state in Novi, Union Lake, Milford, Saginaw, Midland before returning to the Corporate Headquarters in Bloomfield Hills and finished his career in Lansing. He then opened a Marketing Firm for financial services for banks, credit unions and savings and loan institutions and traveled throughout Michigan. He opened a Printing Business to support the printing needs of the printing business. Then, he worked for the Michigan Court of Appeals where he finished his career as a Finance Assistant.

Pr. Carl’s involvement with the church began in Grand Ledge, where he served on Council, was Sunday School Teacher Superintendent, Chair of the Outreach and Stewardship Committee along with serving on a forward planning task force and of course folding and unfolding many chairs and tables in the fellowship hall. He first learned of a new program the N/W Lower Michigan Synod for training as a Lay Missionary (later called Lay Minister) and completed the first class with his wife Mary. He then trained as a Synodically Authorized Minister (SAM) in the Synod and was in the first group to finish the training. As a SAM he served Hope Community in Rockford, MI, and Reformation Lutheran in Coldwater, where he entered the Theological Education for Emerging Ministry, interning at Branch County Community Health Center where he later worked as a Hospice Chaplain, while also serving the Hospital, Behavior Health and Cancer Center units while serving the church in that community all while also working full time.

Carl Became ordained in 2014 and then served St. John Luthran Church in Saginaw until being called by St. Paul Lutheran Church. After working for the Court and for the church 7 days a week over 18 years Carl finally retired from the Court in 2024. Carl says he is thankful to God I have a home at St. Paul where we work together and the folks are not only nice but they love one another and are open giving dignity and respect to all people and define grace. Their main mission is to feed the community while at the same time assisting an organization to assist the homeless to find a place to live.

The Holy Spirit has allowed him to have the courage and energy to respond to God’s amazing grace. While having a compassionate heart he remains to work with others to be inviting and welcoming to all while being encouraging, loving and compassionate to all of God’s children. Finally, he has the passion to let others know about the love of Jesus through his actions and words where he believes preach the Gospel, use words when necessary.

Our God is a relational God. God wants us to be in relationship with God and with other people. He believes it is important I be in relationship not only with God through Christ with the help of the Spirit, but also people in the congregation, the community, while practicing, encouraging and nurturing relationships with the synod and churchwide expressions and other churches as we constantly seek unity to build up the body of Christ.

His work as a Chaplain reenforced everyone deserves dignity and respect.Through these relationships we as the whole people of God as we work together through Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit to carry out God’s mission in the world.
