September 2006
The excitement is building for the Fall return to Sunday School on Rally
Sunday, September 10. We return to two services at 8:30 & 11:00am
with Christian Education at 9:45am. There is the joy of seeing
those who we have missed over the summer with the different schedule
of vacations, camps, and "down time." We who are adults have two
offerings with which to begin this season, both can be a way to "Learn
and Share God's Word," as our mission says.
We have a privilege to have a special Bible Study leader
here with us. Dr. Kent Ulery
will preach at both services and lead Adult Bible Study on Sept. 17th with a study
entitled: "Reading Revelation Devotionally" and lead
Wednesday Night Bible Study on "Listening to the Spirit" for
seven sessions. He is the Conference Minister for the
Michigan Conference of the United Church of Christ, like our synodical
bishop. He is Barb's "boss" and she says one of the perks of her position
is to attend Bible Studies there, many of which he leads. She also says
just listening to him read a passage of Scripture helps you understand it
in a new way. I'm sure this will help bring this often misunderstood book
alive in a new way. We will look at the seven letters to the seven
churches in the Book of Revelation as if written to seven cities in our
state.
Starting on Sunday, October 1st, we will begin an Adult Bible Study
entitled, "Grounded in Prayer: A Small Group Training Guide" at
9:45am. This class written by Brent Dahlseng, a Lutheran Pastor &
Bible Study Leader, has been recommended very highly by a pastor I
respect. It is six sessions in length. The cost of the book is $8.00. Please
contact the church office to order your copy. There will be a Sign-Up
Sheet for both Classes in the lobby.
