July 2006
I know some of you have been wondering what has been going on with
me lately. I have had a decrease in strength in my arms, which has made
it difficult for me to hand out the bread at Holy Communion. I have
asked Craig Anderson to help me out at this time and may ask others
when he is not available. He is a candidate in the Lay Missionary
Program of our Synod. This is a three-year program of training that will
prepare him to do many things that a pastor does. I appreciate his
willingness to serve.
It is not something I have wanted to face, but this arm weakness has been
coming on in the past six months. I am seeing a doctor about it and have
some things in the works to help me adapt to this increased limitation. I
underwent a thorough Occupational Therapy evaluation over two months
ago and recommendations were made and we are now working on
implementing them. I believe I will be able to continue to serve as your
pastor for some time to come. I thank you for your concern and look
forward to continuing to function in this capacity as long as the Lord
makes it possible.
Now on to other business of the church:
Vacation Bible School will soon be here- July 10th-14th, 6:30-8:30.
It should be a lot of fun. Different countries will be featured every day
and it will conclude with the
"Rainbow of Promise" Band from
Youth Encounter,
which has recently been in India. They will be giving a Concert
on the 15th at 7:00pm Everyone is invited. They will be in worship
too on the 16th at 9:30am.
Saturday, July 22nd at 5:00 p.m. we will host a
"Fruits of the Garden"
Picnic & Vespers for members of the
Shaarey Zedek Jewish
Congregation here at at St. Paul. This is a chance to get to know one
another in an informal setting. Rabbi Richard Baroff and I thought it
would be a good thing to get to know our neighbors. Bring a covered
dish and make some new friends. We will need volunteers to grill
burgers and grills.
On the 30th of July
Tim and Marie Schmidt, Pianist and Soprano
Vocalist will be with us for worship at 9:30 a.m. We will follow that
with a Brunch and then they will perform a Concert at 12:00 noon.
There will be a free will offering. Tim will bring the message at worship
pertaining to Lutheran Worship. It should be an enjoyable musical
experience.
We continue with
Adult Sunday School
at 10:45 a.m. through the summer. We will complete our study of the
"Purpose Driven Life" by then. Come and join us.
