June 2006
The summer is now here and there is a shift in the patterns of many of our lives.
It doesn't mean life is less frantic but that some of our activities are focused in
different and enjoyable ways. Hopefully you will have some fun times for recreation.
Beginning May 28th, we go to our Summer Worship schedule of one
service at 9:30am We continue with our Wednesday Worship at 7:00pm for
those who may go camping or traveling on the weekends. We invite you to join
us mid-week.
On June 4th the Day of Pentecost we will host
The Rite of Confirmation for
seven of our young people. Kelly Anderson, Emma Claucherty, Kirsten
Grooms, Alexis Jacobs, Michael Johnson, and Abbie Smith will make their
confession of faith in Jesus Christ. They have been an energetic and challenging
class and I pray that they will continue in their walk with the Lord now in their
young adult years. They are gifted young people and if they so choose they can
make a strong witness for our Lord Jesus.
Several other enjoyable activities will be going on during June:
Monday, June 12th at 6:30pm at our home a
"Legacy Seminar" with Rev. Tom
Pederson, a friend of my college days who is on our Synod Staff. He will be
speaking on "How to Support Ministry in Your Gift Planning." Barb will make
a delicious dessert for the evening. Please RSVP.
Sunday, June 18th at 9:30am worship, the
Covenant Players will bring a
Christian Drama to inspire us. It is a new team who will bring us the message.
There will be a free will offering for their ministry.
Sunday, June 25th at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Grand Ledge there will be a
service followed by a catered buffet serving from 11-11:30am honoring the
50th Ordination Anniversary of Pastor Paul Pretzlaff. For more information call
627-6310. A Card Shower also would be a nice way to honor Pastor Pretzlaff
at that time.
We have just begun our new
E-Team. Evangelism is a foreign word to many. It
is the Christian imperative to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with those
who do not know Him. I believe we take for granted so much of the blessing we
have been given in Jesus that we don't realize that many people are starving for a
relationship with Him. I'm not one to beat people over the head with the Bible
but if someone you know is asking about your faith and what supports you in the
down times, it is a great opportunity to tell of God's love in Jesus.
On another note, I want to say what a privilege it is to work with people who are
so alert and open to show their love through service to others: Sunday School
teachers and helpers, committee and council members, people who take turns at
helping with services whether in front or behind the scenes, and so many more.
All of you are the living assets of Saint Paul Congregation. Without you and
your participation the ministry through our church would not take place. I give
thanks to God for the blessings you are to me personally and to the community.
"To love and serve one another" is not just a slogan but a meaningful statement
here at St. Paul.
